We renovated e a 100 year old Victorian house in the north of England. The house was neglected by the previous tenants and needed a huge renovation before it could go into the market for sale. We painted every single wall, replaced flooring, restored 2 fireplaces, installed a new kitchen and the family bathroom was redone.

This week we continue with the wall and making the french drains but unfortunateky a down pour for several days delays the work and makes a right mess in the courtyard.

More walls are taken down this week! But it was not what we had in mind to do! The wall was about to collapsed, so we took it down before it unsafely cave in. We work more on the wall and clear the courtyard. A lot of work this week!

We are doing this project and making a solid homebase while we renovate our 100-year old Portuguese abandoned farm and become a fully off-grid home eventually!

#25 Harvesting our land olives for the first time
We need to start learning new skills when it comes to farm life and one of them is to successfully harvest olives, prune trees and turn them into olive oil or other produce. Unfortunately, we didn't have much luck this time as our trees are very neglected!

We have come to the time to do the rafters on our container tiny home situated on our beautiful land on Portugal! It has been a rocky start! Doing rafters with unseasoned wood has been quite a challenge but luckily with three heads together, we are probably going to figure it out! This week we completed another major job for this roof build and we also have some amazing help! We are getting closer to finishing this roof which will be our home for the time we will be restoring the main farm house.

#21 Building a worktable with scrapped wood and pine planks
It has been pouring with rain therefore, it was the perfect opportunity to build indoors. We made our first worktable with some scrapped wood and an extra set of planks for the top. It costed us less than 60 Euros to build.

We place the rest of the timber wood posts including the shou sugi ban. We encounter some hiccups along the way. We also visit some friends living off the grid and have a great picnic by a waterfall.

#18 Starting to place the timber frame for the roof
We start to cutting and placing the wooden frame for the future roof on our cabin. Cut and place the bigger charred wooden posts and show you the local market.

#17 Preserving wood posts with ancient Japanese method
This week, on our off grid roof cabin build, we apply the Japanese ancient method of charring wood: Shou Sugi Ban, to preserve our 15x15cm posts which will be holding the roof of our container.

#16 Getting the wood ready for our cabin
We are doing the final prep of our materials before building the roof up! We also do our second trial with the Shou Sugi Ban Japanese wood burning method by changing some of our tools. We also show you a bit more of our land.

#15 Building foundations for our Outdoor kitchen
In this episode, we are building foundations for our outdoor kitchen. We use concrete forming tubes this time to make it easier to pour and prepare the foundation.

#14 Back to our cabin. Clearing the land, making jam and chutney
We come back home from the UK after a fantastic drive through Southern France and Spain. We settle in to our tasks, clearing the land and a broken tree. We also make some jam and chutney from our neighbours' gifts.

#13 Moving to Portugal by land (vineyards, rivers & mountains)
We finally left the UK, moving to our new home before the summer ended. We take the long way around and drive through France and stay at some of the best campsites in South of France. Our experience moving to Portugal this this time was super easy. An enjoyable European road trip off-grid!

#11 Getting rid of old wood, Building outdoor shower
We have compile a huge mountain of old wood that we cannot reuse due to pests, old varnish and oils added onto this wood. Most of it was very crumbly as well. We seized the a window between rainy days to burn it all. We also build an sheltered, simple outdoor shower.

#10 Building concrete footings for our tiny house (Roof build)
We start to build the concrete piers for the roof supporting system. These piers will be holding 15cm wooden posts. We also share some of our future plans and we have a great visit from an old friend.

We have started to building our own roof on top of our tiny house;. We want to renovate our property ourselves, so this will serve up as a great learning curve and prepare us for the bigger tasks coming up next.

We finished our tiny house ceiling! Omar sorts out the electricity, installs spotlights on the ceiling, bedside lights to maximise space and lastly, panel the ceiling with beautiful varnished pine!

The summer months are approaching and with that, the hot weather. We start phase 1 of our insulation process of our container home which, it's the ceiling of the container. Unfortunately, it doesn't go to plan.
